Tall Folding Climbing Triangle

Please note: This is the TALL Foldable Climbing Triangle. It is suitable for those 18 months and older, and is ideal for tall toddlers, or families that have 2+ munchkins (with one being about 4 years old) who need more physical challenges or creative play.

It is also great for those with ADHD or ASD.

NEW: As of September 1, 2020, our Foldable Climbing Triangle is now made from 100% solid pieces of Canadian maple and is the ONLY ONE that is made this way. It is not made from laminated sheets of plywood, nor it is made from MDF (both of which could emit VOCs and contain formaldehyde). As a result, our triangle is heavier than its lighter or softer wood counterparts. We have raised the price incrementally to reflect the additional cost to us, but we believe we have made the strongest version of this structure on the market.

If there is one item to splurge on for your little ones, it's a Foldable Climbing Triangle. Originated by Dr. Emmi Pikler, whose founding principle was "free motricity", aka the belief that littles should be in charge of their own movement, the triangle is a climbing structure that safely lets little ones - well, climb.

And why is that revolutionary? Because climbing is a natural instinct for babes. From the moment they pull themselves up off the ground, they are using their bodies to propel themselves upwards. You know how, when you learned to ride a bike or learn to ski, one of the first things your teacher told you was that if you look in a particular direction, your body will follow? So too with climbing and little ones. They look up, lift a hand, then the other follows, and their bottom leaves the ground. Voila. Your little one is now standing.

As avid rock climbers, we believe in the power of climbing. There's a rhythm to it, a balance of the body, a mental awareness of what the body is doing in relatively small space. It's strength through calmness and grace through concentration.

All this transfers to the climbing triangle, with its gentle angle and sloped incline that encourages ascent safely.

This is the pre-playground to the school's playground.

And the best part?

Little ones instinctively know their limits. They won't push themselves until they're ready, so you can take a step back (within a safe distance) and let them explore; let them pull up, climb, and then bravely step over the apex.

Physics, risk assessment, taking turns, being social, communicating, physical literacy, confidence, body awareness: all this is developed with the triangle.

And let's not forget the imagination. String a row of mini lights along the top or weave them down the side, then pop a blanket over top and let the world of imaginative play take over. We invite fairies, tell bear stories, plan our day, map the stars, take our dolls camping, have picnics, and do so much under the canopy of our triangle.

THE DETAILS

When opened, the Foldable Climbing Triangle is 3.5 feet tall and opens to 4 feet. It is 39 inches wide, which comfortably fits 2 children.

When folded, it is 46 inches tall, and 9 inches deep.

The triangle is unfinished, although we can add a protective coating if you'd like. Please note that finishing will alter the appearance of the wood and darken it so the finished product will appear different from the photos. Different trees take differently to finishing so bear in mind that the triangle may have varying shades. There is an extra fee of $80 for finishing, because it is all done by hand.

We are proud to say that our Foldable Climbing Triangle is the ONLY ONE that is 100% hand made and uses 100% locally sourced solid pieces of Canadian maple. It is not made from plywood of any type, nor is it made from a soft wood like pine or MDF.

Optional add-ons are:
1) reversible climbing wall and slide (climbing holds are made of recycled materials)
2) reversible ladder and slide

To save on astronomical shipping costs, the Foldable Climbing Triangle comes disassembled. You will need an allen wrench that is 5/32" (about the size that's similar to the end part of a chopstick). We are happy to include one for you if you don't have one; just send us a message or add it as a note and let us know. We have found that many people have one in their homes so we don't want to create waste.

Assembly takes roughly 45 minutes. We want to minimize waste and have found that most people will use their tablets, phones or other screen to view the instructions so we email the assembly instructions. They come in a PDF. Please let me know if that doesn't work for you.

SAFETY NOTES:

Please do not leave your child unattended when using the Foldable Climbing Triangle. Supervision is required at all times. Barefoot is best as socks can be slippery. We recommend putting soft padding around for little ones when they climb, like blankets, couch cushions, pillows, or anything else that is soft (probably not the dog, though).

Please store the Foldable Climbing Triangle folded on its side, on the ground. Do not lean it against a wall or a piece of furniture. Children who have enjoyed their experience with the climbing triangle will be naturally inclined to grab a rod, and the entire structure could fall and seriously harm a child or nearby dog or adult.

If you need this for a birthday gift please plan well in advance and give 6 weeks from the day you order to the day it will arrive in order to ensure you do receive it on time. Also please indicate the date of the birthday in the note when you purchase so that I make sure to give it 3 weeks arrival, depending on whether you gave us 3 weeks to make it or not.

CANADA: Basic shipping is tracked and can take up to 21 business days, depending on where you are within the country. If you would like to receive your package sooner please choose the Priority option when you check out or message me and I can help expedite the shipping process for you.

USA: Basic shipping is tracked with Canada Post. PLEASE include your phone number in a note when you make your purchase; our customs form requires it and not including it may delay shipping to you.

Europe, Australia and around the world: Unfortunately we are no longer shipping the Pikler triangle internationally overseas. I'm so sorry.
